About
Hi, I'm Kelly — and I love helping dogs and their people.
Based in Overland Park, KS — I founded KJT Gentle Dog Training in August 2021 because I believe every dog deserves a trainer who leads with patience, not pressure.
My story
I've been working with dogs my entire life — but it wasn't until I pursued formal certification that I truly understood the science behind how dogs learn. I completed my certification through Animal Behavior College, earning credentials in both Dog Obedience Training and Nuisance Behavior Modification, and opened KJT Gentle Dog Training on August 6, 2021.
What that training taught me — and what I bring to every session — is that dogs aren't being stubborn or bad. They're communicating. My job is to help you understand what your dog is telling you, and to give them the tools to make better choices.
I work exclusively with positive reinforcement. No choke chains. No shock collars. No yelling. Just clear, consistent communication and a whole lot of encouragement. I welcome dogs of all breeds — I don't discriminate based on breed. The only dogs I'm unable to work with are those showing aggression or reactivity.

My approach
Why positive reinforcement?
The science is clear: dogs learn faster, retain more, and are happier when training is reward-based. Punishment-based methods may suppress behavior in the moment, but they don't teach the dog what to do instead — and they can damage trust. I want your dog to want to listen to you, not just be afraid not to.
- Every session is tailored to your dog's age, breed, and temperament
- Your whole family is coached — consistency at home is everything
- I explain the why behind every technique so you stay empowered
- No judgment — every dog and every family starts somewhere
"I want your dog to want to listen to you — not just be afraid not to."
